Kampala, Uganda – As the Christmas festive season approaches, the Uganda Police Force has issued a warning to passengers using public service vehicles, particularly long-route buses, to be vigilant and cautious.
The warning comes after two incidents involving Jaguar buses, where passengers were allegedly poisoned and robbed of their valuables after losing consciousness.
According to Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, on November 5, Vascana Amon, 24, was dragged onto a Jaguar bus (UBN 307T) and robbed of his belongings. The following day, three passengers on another Jaguar bus (UBN 260T) traveling from Kampala to Kigali were sedated and robbed of phones, cash, and other valuables.
The three victims were rushed to Kabale Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Kituuma revealed that the police are in discussions with proprietors of Jaguar Bus Company to address the growing concerns.
“We urge the general public to remain vigilant and cautious while taking meals during journeys,” Kituuma warned. “Most perpetrators of such offenses often deceive victims into consuming foods and drinks laced with sedatives before robbing them.”
