Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, Principal Public Relations Officer UNEB

Kampala, Uganda – In a crackdown on examination malpractice, four teachers have been arrested by the police for sharing fake Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) papers on social media.

According to UNEB’s Principal Public Relations Officer Jenifer Kalule Musamba the suspects have been identified as; Bakashaba Vincent a teacher of Kimongole Primary School, Muheki Vincent a teacher at Vision Primary School in Ibanda, Pabeku Albert a teacher at Stoneridge Primary School in Kira, and Oyet Hosea a teacher at Dignatory Junior School in Rukungiri.

Kalule highlighted that the teachers were found sharing the fake papers on various social media platforms where they were extorting sums of money from individuals. “The four were found sharing fake PLE papers on different social media platforms, where they would extort money to the tune of 750,000/= per set of the purported four PLE papers.” Kalule said in a statement

She warned that Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259 provides that possessing or disseminating unauthorized exam materials is punishable by law, with fines up to 20 million shillings or 5-year imprisonment. “The examination paper, material and information includes an electronic version as well as transmission of the same.” She said

The board has registered cases of malpractice during the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, including incidents where teachers provided unauthorized assistance during practical exams.

The arrest comes at a time when the Primary Seven candidates are gearing up for their PLE Exams which are set to begin on Wednesday November 6th, 2024.

The police are expected to take further action, and the suspects will appear in court for plea taking on November 5th, 2024.
