BUSHENYI| A 20-year-old man has been arrested by police in Bushenyi for allegedly defiling and attempting to murder an 8-year-old female pupil. The suspect, Amanya Derrick, was apprehended by the territorial police on May 30, 2024.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the suspect lured the young girl to his room as she was returning to school, where he tied her hands and subjected her to a horrific ordeal. The brave girl managed to scream for help, alerting nearby residents who swiftly informed her parents. The timely intervention likely saved her life.

“The suspect would always see this girl come for lunch and then go back to her school at 1:00pm.This time he called her up and she entered the room, he forcefully tore the girl’s uniform, tied her hands from behind and then wrapped a towel around her neck, where he started defiling her.” Enanga said

Police recovered key evidence, including a blanket, towel, rubber rope, and torn uniform, and the victim has received crucial medical attention, including PEP treatment. Samples from the private parts of the victim were taken for comparison with that of the arrested suspect.

The investigation is ongoing, with the suspect in custody.

Enanga urged parents to be vigilant and ensure their children’s safety, particularly those under 12 years old who are most vulnerable to such heinous crimes.“The victim narrowly survived after she was sexually assaulted and there are chances that she could have been murdered after the act of sex violence.” He stated
