The Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Hon. Tom Butime, facilitated a breakthrough between the Conservation Through Commercialization (CTC) and the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
This milestone follows weeks of discord between the two entities over the introduction of additional animal species into the country.
The conflict came to light when Thomas Price, the owner of CTC located in Butambala district, voiced grievances alleging obstruction by UWA officials despite fulfilling all necessary requirements.
Price’s concerns were articulated during discussions with members of the parliamentary committee on Trade, Tourism, and Industry during their recent visit to the facility.
However, today marked a turning point as the Minister for tourism Hon. Tom Butime visited the CTC Conservation Centre to personally address the lingering issues.
He commended Thomas Price for his dedication to promoting tourism through the establishment of the impressive facility.
During his visit, Minister Butime revealed that the grievances between CTC and UWA have been amicably resolved through constructive dialogue.
He further announced plans for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties to ably advance conservation efforts and promoting tourism in Uganda.
Minister had an opportunity to name two lion cubs that were given birth recently at the centre. He named the male after himself and coincidentally the name confides with that of the facility proprietor (Thomas).
He also named the female cub Beatrice, his wife’s name. He promised to make time in the future to come and visit them when fully grown.
