The Uganda police force leadership have decided to halt National Unity Platform’s ongoing consultative meetings with their supporters countrywide, following yesterday’s fatal road crash which claimed the lives of 3 people and injury several others.
The fatal accident happened at Maya along the Masaka-Kampala highway involving 2 motor vehicles and 4 motorcycles which were part of the the National Unity Platform’s motorcade.
Speaking about the tragic incident, the police spokesperson SCP Enanga Fred disclosed that the loss of the innocent lives was as a result of recklessness of the drivers and riders who were driving in excess speed without regard to other road users.
Enanga noted how the National Unity Platform’s leadership have disregarded the agreed position and continued to act with impunity as demonstrated in yesterday’s unfortunate incident at Maya, adding that the actions contradict with what they had agreed upon in the recent meeting which was held at the police headquarters in Naguru.
“As the government Agency mandated to protect life and property, keep law and order, the police management has decided to halt any further consultative activities of NUP as a party with immediate effect until this matter is conclusively investigated and resolved.” Enanga said
He however, appealed to the members of the general public to remain vigilant and observe the law and order, adding that whoever acts contrary to public order and safety shall be held accountable under the laws of Uganda. “The safety of Ugandans will always remain our priority.” He said
