62nd Independence Day: 40 People to Be Awarded Medals

Kampala Uganda – As Uganda prepares to mark 62 years of independence, the country will grant special recognition on 40 distinguished persons whose tireless efforts have propelled national progress, through the presentation of coveted medals.

The announcement was made by the Minister for Presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda, while addressing members of the fourth estate earlier today at Uganda Media Centre, ahead of the celebrations on 9th October 2024.

The celebrations will take place at Busikho Teacher’s Primary School Grounds in Masafu Town Council, Busia District.

“I am pleased to announce to the whole country that on 9th October 2024, Ugandans; both within the country and across the world, will celebrate 62 years of self-rule,” Minister Babalanda said.

She emphasized the significance of the day, stating, “This is the day we got liberated from the yoke of the British colonial rule.”

President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest, accompanied by the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin Archange Touadera, and other special delegations.

As part of the celebrations, the Office of the President conducted a free health camp from September 23-27 at Masafu General Hospital. Minister Babalanda explained, “As a way of giving back to the people; especially those in Bukedi sub-region where the event will be held; the Office of the President, together with a Germany NGO – BAZUNGU e.V; conducted a health camp to treat people with eye complications free of charge.”

The health camp provided medical attention to 1005 patients with eye complications, with 300 diagnosed with mature cataracts and 105 presenting other eye defects.

Additionally, 700 reading glasses were distributed, and surgeries are slated for October 2024 at Bukedea Eye Medical Clinic.

Babalanda highlighted that the President H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to award medals to 40 distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to the country. “His Excellency the President will give out various categories of Medals to befitting Ugandans. Forty (40) distinguished persons have been identified by the Chancery and His Excellency the President has approved their names and will award them with special medals.”Minister Babalanda revealed

The medals include:

-The National Independence Medal Diamond Jubile: 30 medalists

-The Luwero Triangle Medal: 3 medalists

-Masabg Medal: 1 medalist

-Long Service Gold – Police: 4 medalists

-Personal Sacrifice – Police: 1 medalist

-Meritorious Medal – Police: 1 medalist

There will be several other special delegations that will join the President on that special day. As expected, members of Cabinet, Judiciary, Parliament and other Government Officials have been invited and will join H.E the President to celebrate this historical day.

The 62nd Independence Day celebrations promise to be a momentous occasion, highlighting Uganda’s progress, cultural heritage, and commitment to its citizens’ well-being.
