Kiteezi Probe: Former KCCA Directors to Appear Before CID On Wednesday

Kampala, Uganda – The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) has summoned former Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) top officials for questioning regarding the Kiteezi landfill collapse that resulted in the loss of numerous lives.

The summoned officials include former Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka, her deputy Engineer David Luyimbazi, and Dr. Daniel Okello who was the director of Public Health and Environment.

The Officials are accused of failing to ensure proper waste management practices, leading to environmental degradation and health risks for nearby communities.

According to Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kituuma Rusoke, the summoning is a result of directives from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

“We are moving smoothly in that direction, and on Wednesday, they will appear, and statements will be taken, as well as their versions,” ACP Kituuma said, dismissing misleading information that the officials had been summoned earlier.

The Kiteezi landfill collapse sparked widespread outrage, prompting President Museveni to order an investigation. The Inspector General of Government’s report implicated the KCCA officials, leading to their dismissal.

The CID probe aims to determine the role of the KCCA officials in the tragedy and hold accountable those responsible.
