Kampala, Uganda – The death toll from yesterday’s devastating accident at Kigogwa Town along Kampala-Bombo road in Kasangati, Wakiso district, has risen to 15, with four more victims succumbing to their injuries today.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango disclosed that Initially, 11 people were reported dead at the scene yesterday, but the number increased after four others died while receiving treatment.
“Twenty-four others were injured, with 15 currently in ICU and 9 in the normal ward at Kirundu hospital.” Onyango disclosed
He also outlined that efforts are underway to identify the deceased through DNA testing. Relatives are urged to come forward to assist in this process.
Onyango further highlighted that the driver of the truck involved in the accident remains at large, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
Authorities are utilizing CCTV cameras to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. “The bodies of the victims will be released to their families once DNA testing is complete.” Onyango said
