Kampala, Uganda – Uganda Airlines has issued a clarification regarding the reported legal action taken by fuel supplier, MixJet Flight Support, due to non-payment of it’s obligations.
The airline acknowledges contracting MixJet since its inception and paying $140 million from July 2019 to July 2024. However, the amount due is disputed, with Uganda Airlines claiming it’s $8 million, not $10 million as reported by The Daily Monitor Publication.
The Daily Monitor had initially reported that MixJet gave Uganda Airlines a 48-hour ultimatum to pay at least $6 million of the $10 million owed.
According to the management of Uganda Airlines, the delay in payment arose from the Airlines’ insistence on paying based on fuel uplifts and tech logs, not just the supplier’s invoices. “Over time, the Airline has received some inflated fuel invoices, high market prices, erroneously billed and over-invoiced, and consistent threats to withdraw services without due warning to the detriment of our operations.” The management said in a statement
“While the Airline appreciates the credit facilities offered by the supplier, it finds it unacceptable that the supplier would drag it to mainstream media to protest standard financial management practices.” Said the management
Management of Uganda Airlines added, “The Airline will reconcile every invoice and, after satisfying itself, pay the supplier within a reasonable time.”
Uganda Airlines assured the public that its operations will continue unabated despite the dispute
This development comes amidst Uganda’s broader efforts to manage its fuel imports. Earlier this year, Uganda took Kenya to the East African Court of Justice over a fuel import license dispute.
