Kampala, Uganda – Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has received a generous donation of drugs worth UGX 35 million from Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical LTD as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative.
The drugs donated includes Anti-Malaria, Anti-fungal, Contraceptives, Laxative, Anti-microbial among others.
Speaking during the handover ceremony for the donation at City Hall Mr. Yelipudi Ramesh, the Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical LTD country director highlighted that the donation aims to support the health and well-being of Kampala residents, building on Bliss GVS Pharmaceutical LTD’s 25-year commitment to Uganda.
Dr. Sarah Zalwango, Acting Director of Public Health at KCCA, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting that it will help alleviate drug scarcity issues in KCCA health facilities.
Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) directly oversees eight public health facilities, comprising two Health Centre IV facilities – Kisenyi and Kawaala Health Centre – and six Health Centre III facilities. These facilities cater to a significant number of patients daily, highlighting the demand for quality healthcare services in the city.
“This donation is going to save us alot because we only have 8 health facilities and the city has 80% private facilities. Public service facilities we find ourselves over burdened by the work load. On average Kisenyi receives over 1,000 patients per day.” Dr. Sarah said
“Because we here to serve you cannot say stop, with the rest going back. We just instead handle all the clients amidst the challenges of infrastructure, Human Resource and also the consumables like drugs, sometimes we find ourselves out of stalk of the key essential drugs of which anti-malaria with also one of them.” She added
According to Dr. Sarah, KCCA’s health information system reveals that malaria ranks among the top 5 causes of morbidity in Kampala, surpassed only by upper respiratory infections. These two conditions, along with other common illnesses, contribute significantly to the city’s healthcare workload.
She committed to rightfully put the donated medical help inform of drugs to good use, stressing that the drugs will be offered at a free costs since as authority they’re there to offer free services to the citizens.
Dr. Sarah expressed gratitude for the donation and assured that the medical supplies would be utilized to benefit the community.
