Boda Boda Rider Murdered in Makindye, 5 Suspects Arrested

Kampala, Uganda – A brutal murder has shaken the Makindye Division community after a boda boda rider, Megade Tonny, was stabbed to death by eight thugs in Israel-Matovu Zone, Makindye II Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District.

According to the deputy spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police Luke Owoyesigyire, incident occurred on October 9th, 2024, when Tonny and his wife, Namubiru Jane, were ambushed while heading home from Nakibuka stage. “After parking their motorcycle and beginning their walk home, they were ambushed by eight thugs, who proceeded to stab him. Namubiru raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of neighbors.” Owoyesigyire highlighted

Preliminary investigations indicate that a phone and some cash were stolen from the deceased before the attackers fled the scene.

Owoyesigyire disclosed that 5 Suspects in connection with the murder have already been arrested by Katwe police. “One of the suspects denied involvement and sought the intervention of the Local Council Chairman for Katale zone Makindye one , Mr Kyagombwa sowed.” He said

Police say, after learning of the relationship between one of the suspects and their Local council chairman Mr. Kyagombwa,boda boda riders attacked the chairman thinking he was part of the click that murdered their colleague.

“They took matters into their own hands and set the office of the LC1 chairman for katale zone Makindye on fire.” Owoyesigyire stated

However, Police responded swiftly, rescued the chairman and extinguished the fire before it could cause significant damage.

“We urge the public to remain calm as investigations into the motive behind the murder and the involvement of all individuals continue.” He emphasized

The body of the deceased has been taken to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for postmortem examination.
