Kampala, Uganda – A tragic fire incident in Kisenyi 2 Zone, Kamwokya, has claimed the life of a 15-year-old student, Kiiza Melisa Catherine.
According to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy spokesperson of Kampala metropolitan police, the blaze reported at 1:49 a.m. on October 25, 2024, ravaged makeshift structures made of timber and iron sheets in the area, destroying all property.
“Emergency responders, including the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, acted swiftly to contain the fire, with the support of a team from the Uganda Red Cross and a Scene of Crime Officer.” Owoyesigyire highlighted
However, despite their efforts, Kiiza Melisa Catherine, a 15-yea a student at City Side School in Kyebando, was found dead.
Her body has been transferred to the City Mortuary, Mulago, for a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. “Authorities are continuing to comb through the scene to ensure no additional persons remain trapped and to gather evidence.” He said
