Lamwo, Uganda – Tragedy struck in Lamwo district yesterday when a devastating lightning strike killed 14 people and injured 34 others during a prayer service at a church in Palace Settlement Camp, Zone 8, Block 2.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 PM.
“The victims had gathered for prayers when a sudden rainstorm hit the area around 5:00 PM, followed by a deadly lightning strike,” ACP Kituuma Rusoke said.

7. Tany Tai, 12, Female, Block 2, Zone 8
8. Tidial Gatluak, 16, Male, Block 2, Zone 8
9. Chop Matai Chop, 15, Male, Block 2, Zone 8
10. Nyagai Diew, 9, Female, Block 2, Zone 8
11. Nyathak Mariner, 12, Female, Block 2, Zone 8
12. Lul Riek John, 14, Male, Block 2, Zone 8

Kituuma highlighted that the injured victims were rushed to Paluda Health Center III for medical attention.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many gathering to pay their respects to the victims.
