Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has intensified its fight against examination malpractice, arresting five teachers and two Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates over acts that are contrary to section 25 (i) of the UNEB Act, CAP 259.
According to Jennifer Kalule-Musamba, UNEB’s Principal Public Relations Officer, the five teachers, identified as Mugaga Ramathan, Tumuhimbise Ronald, Otai Nelson, Katamba Richard, and Kimanje Tom, were found with unauthorized examination materials.
“It is alleged that the accused shared the electronic content of what was believed to be UNEB PLE Papers, including maths, science, SST and English on social media platforms of WhatsApp and Telegram.” Jenifer said
She added, “It is also said that they read out the related answers to the candidates of Kisoro Primary School in Kimanya, Masaka City.”
The accused are expected to be arraigned before the magistrate’s court in Kiira, on Tuesday November 22nd
The two UACE candidates, Nabahinda Cecilia and Nakiyimba Grace, registered with Masaka Hall, were caught with smartphones during the exam. “One was using artificial intelligence to download an essay, while another had summarised notes on the phone.” Jenifer said
“The Police in Masaka are investigating a case involving two UACE students registered with Masaka Hall.” She added
