Kampala, Uganda – A devastating fire broke out at Side View Nursery and Primary School in Kinawataka Zone One, Nakawa Division, on September 21, 2024, destroying the entire school.
According to the KMP deputy spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident was reported at approximately 9:00 PM and it’s believed to have originated from the school kitchen before rapidly spreading due to the wooden structures.
The Police Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly but were unable to salvage any part of the school.
“The Police Fire and Rescue Services promptly responded to the scene; however, due to the wooden structures of the school, the fire rapidly engulfed the property, leaving nothing salvageable. Fortunately, as the school operates as a day school, there were no children on the premises at the time, and no lives were lost.” Said Owoyesigyire
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and further details will be provided as they become available.
“We assure the public that a thorough investigation is underway, and we will keep you updated on the findings.” Owoyesigyire assured
The incident has raised concerns about school safety and the need for stringent fire prevention measures as children report back for third term.
