Gas Cylinder Blast Kills 2 at Kampala Steel Plant

Kampala, Uganda – A devastating explosion at an oxygen and steel plant in Kabowa Parish, Kampala, has claimed the lives of two individuals. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. at Sembule A, Rubaga Division.

According to preliminary reports, Andrajt Baraya, an Indian national, and Amos, a Ugandan national, were operating the oxygen plant during their day shift when a gas cylinder exploded, resulting in their immediate deaths.

The police have launched an investigation into the suspected negligence act that led to the explosion. “The Police, together with experts, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the explosion and working to determine its cause. We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.” Said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police.

Owoyesigyire added, “We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and assure the public that a thorough investigation is underway to establish the facts surrounding this unfortunate event.”
