Kampala Uganda – Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has taken drastic action following the devastating Kiteezi landfill collapse, dismissing three senior Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) officials due to evidence of criminal negligence.
The President has invoked his constitutional authority under Article 172 (1) (a) of the 1995 Constitution to remove the officials from their positions in the public interest.
The dismissed officials include:
– Executive Director: Dorothy Kisaka
– Deputy Executive Director: Engineer David Luyimbazi
– Director of Public Health: Dr. Daniel Okello
The President’s decision comes after the Inspector General of Government’s report highlighted severe oversight and negligence by these officials, contributing to the disaster that claimed 21 lives.
Museveni has directed the Criminal Investigations Department and other crime management agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter further.
To ensure a smooth transition, the President has directed the Public Service Commission to advertise the vacant positions, aiming to appoint new officials within three months.
Additionally, the Minister for Kampala has been tasked with advising the President on interim appointments for these crucial positions to ensure that operations within KCCA continue without disruption until permanent replacements are in place.
This move demonstrates President Museveni’s commitment to upholding accountability and maintaining high governance standards.
The President previously emphasized the need for Ugandans to learn from this tragedy and avoid settling in hazardous areas.
