Kyankwanzi, Uganda – The territorial police in Kyankwanzi have arrested a 30 year old man, Ssemanda Ronald for allegedly murdering his biological mother and brother in Kiyuni Village, Kiyuni Parish, Gayaza Subcounty, Kyankwanzi District on September 9, 2024, at around 8:20 pm.
According to the spokesperson of Wamala regional police, Racheal Kawala the victims have been identified as Namaganda Sylvia aged 46 years and Ssenyonga Robert aged 24 years, both residents of Bukekete Village, Makulubita Subcounty, Luwero District.
Eye witnesses say, on June this year the suspect together with the two deceased family members left their home in Luwero district, heading for prayers at the home of Rev. David Ssejjemba, a parish priest of Nakandura Church of Uganda in Kiyuni Village, Kyankwanzi District.
“It is alleged they had purposely taken the suspect for miraculous prayers and deliverance since he had suffered from mental illness for a long time.” Said the regional police spokesperson Racheal
However, On the 9th of September, 2024, at about 2020 hours, the suspect allegedly picked up a large cassava stem and hit his brother on the head, then turned to his mother and struck her on the head as well. “This caused the instant death of the brother, while the mother died shortly after arrival at a nearby clinic.” Racheal revealed
Kawala confirmed that their police responded quickly to the scene, documenting and examining the area, and recovering the cassava stem used in the attack. “The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.” She said
The suspect who will be subjected to a medical examination to establish his mental status is currently being detained at Kyankwanzi police station as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
