Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force have dismissed reports that the official vehicle of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was stolen, calling the claims “inaccurate and exaggerated”.
The headline is said to have been published by the government’s news paper, the New vision dated August 9, 2024, which claimed that the official vehicle of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) had been stolen by thieves.
However, according to a statement released by the police spokesperson today ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the vehicle involved in the reported theft was not the IGP’s official car, but a police single cabin pickup (UP 00135) used as a service van.
“The Police Force firmly asserts that this information is both inaccurate and exaggerated. The IGP’s official vehicle remains secure and has not been compromised. The vehicle involved in the reported theft is not the official car of the IGP.” Said Kituuma in a press statement
The spokesperson highlighted that a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident was launched, leading to the recovery of the said stolen vehicle including the arrest of one suspect. “The investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be provided at an appropriate time.” Kituuma said
The Uganda Police Force will continue to keep the public informed of any developments related to this case.” He further stated in the statement
