Beni, Eastern DRC: The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) concluded a critical two-day operational review in Beni, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, aimed at strengthening the joint efforts against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a terrorist group linked to the Islamic State.

During the meeting, Maj Gen Chicco Tshitambwe, FARDC’s Deputy Chief of General Staff for Operations praised the commanders for their concerted efforts in reducing the ADF’s operational foothold and limiting its capacity to inflict violence on civilians.

He reassured the joint commanders of the unwavering support from their strategic leadership, emphasizing that recommendations from the meeting would be taken seriously in furthering the operation’s objectives.

Maj Gen Richard Otto, Commander of the UPDF Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa highlighted the productive dialogue as evidence of the unified commitment between the two forces, a reflection of the shared goals and dedication to securing peace.

Present during the meeting were Maj Gen Nyembo Abdallah and Maj Gen Bruno Mandevu, who represented FARDC’s Ituri and Sokola Grand North divisions, respectively.

The joint military operation conducted by the two armies against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) since November 2021 is reviewed regularly to discuss emerging issues affecting the operation and address them collaboratively.
