Luweero, Uganda – A disturbing case of aggravated defilement has come to light in Luweero District, where a 12-year-old girl was sexually abused by a sheikh who claimed to be providing herbal treatment.
According to police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, on August 22, 2024 the 12-year-old female victim was taken by her grandmother to the suspect identified as Sheikh Mohammed Uthuman for treatment in Luweero town council, but instead of receiving help, the girl was subjected to six days of abuse.
Police say, the Sheikh had informed the juvenile’s grandmother that the treatment would last for six days, where she was instructed to wait outside as the Sheikh administers the treatment on the victim in the treatment room alone.
“Inside, he allegedly instructed her to remove her clothes and lie on a mat, applying herbal medicine around her waist. On the sixth day, he reportedly smeared the herbs on the victim’s private parts and proceeded to defile her, claiming he was casting out demons.” Kituuma highlighted
The victim later reported the abuse to her grandmother who dismissed her concerns speaking positively about the Sheikh she trusted so much.
She eventually found the courage to confide in her headteacher, who contacted her father and filed a police report. “This led to a police report being filed on September 6, 2024.”Kituuma revealed
The police have arrested the suspect and are preparing him for prosecution.
