Lusaka, Zambia – Uganda Airlines has officially launched its inaugural flight to Lusaka, Zambia, marking a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between Uganda and Zambia.
While delivering his speech as the chief guest, H.E. Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, Uganda’s High Commissioner to Zambia, hailed the launch as a testament to the growing ties between the two nations.
“This moment marks not just the expansion of air travel between our two great nations, but also a continuation of the long-standing, cordial, and productive relationship between Uganda and Zambia,” Mwesigye said during the flag-off ceremony.
“Our countries, bound by the Pan-African spirit, have been strong supporters of each other in the pursuit of peace, development, and regional integration.” He further said
Mwesigye emphasized the historical significance of the Uganda-Zambia relationship. “The people of Uganda and Zambia have enjoyed a deep and abiding partnership founded on shared values, mutual respect, and cooperation across various sectors,” he noted. “From our participation in liberation struggles to our contributions to regional organizations like COMESA, the African Union, and the East African Community, Uganda and Zambia have always been committed to each other’s prosperity and progress.”
The new route is expected to enhance economic, social, and cultural exchange between the two countries. Mwesigye highlighted the benefits of the direct air route, saying, “This direct flight will open new avenues for trade and investment, promoting economic growth in both countries. It will facilitate the movement of goods, services, and people, making it easier for businesses to collaborate and create partnerships.”
Mwesigye also emphasized the importance of tourism in fostering cultural exchange and understanding within the two countries.”Uganda and Zambia are blessed with breathtaking landscapes, unique wildlife, and rich cultural heritage,” Mwesigye said
“By facilitating easier travel between our nations, we invite our citizens and international visitors alike to explore the beauty and diversity that both countries have to offer.” He added
The High Commissioner praised the efforts of Uganda Airlines, extending his heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of both Uganda and Zambia, the management of Uganda Airlines, and all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to make this day a reality.
He expressed optimism about the future of Uganda-Zambia relations, stating, “May this new chapter in our relationship inspire even greater achievements in the future.”
As Uganda Airlines begins its operations in Zambia, Mwesigye urged stakeholders to seize the opportunities presented by this new route.
“Let us remember that it is through partnerships such as this that we can achieve mutual prosperity and contribute to the sustainable development of our region. I wish Uganda Airlines every success in this new endeavor. ” he said.
