Kampala, Uganda – In a bid to strengthen the country’s criminal justice system, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) will hold their inaugural annual coordination meeting.
The two-day event, which kicks off on September 4, 2024, at CID Headquarters in Kampala, aims to enhance collaboration and cooperation between prosecutors and investigators in tackling complex crimes, including electoral offenses, corruption, and land-related cases.
The meeting, themed “The Contribution of ODPP/CID in the Socio-Economic Transformation of Uganda,” will bring together 620 participants, including investigators, prosecutors, and key stakeholders in the criminal justice system. His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda is expected to grace the occasion as the Chief Guest.
According to the joint press statement, the meeting seeks to equip investigators and prosecutors with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively investigate and prosecute criminal cases, share best practices, and enhance coordination and communication.
The move comes as Uganda prepares for the 2026 election period, with the ODPP and CID resolving to hold an annual coordination meeting to counter sophisticated and emerging crime trends.
By joining forces, the ODPP and CID aim to drive social and economic transformation in Uganda by upholding the law, creating a secure environment, and supporting the government’s initiatives for development and economic progress.
