A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier, Private Lukwang Isaac, went on a shooting spree yesterday evening, injuring a fellow soldier, Private Alebu Joel, and later killing another soldier, Private Kule Solomon, at a border detachment in Kamukumbi.

According to Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer of the UPDF Mountain Division, the incident began when Private Lukwang Isaac entered a colleague’s house and took a gun, starting to shoot randomly hence injuring a fellow soldier.

Tragically, Private Lukwang Isaac reappeared at the Kamukumbi border detachment around 4:00 a.m. and shot and killed Private Kule Solomon, seizing his gun.

The UPDF dispatched a squad to disarm him, and after exchanging fire, they put Private Lukwang Isaac out of action. “The hunt for the rampaging soldier was intensified, and this evening the soldier was put out of action by a UPDF squad dispatched to disarm him when he shot back at them.” Major Bilal highlighted

Bilal outlined that they’ve recovered the two guns taken by the rogue soldier and expressed condolences to the family of the slain soldier. “We commiserate with the family of the soldier who was killed while on official duty and wish the injured a quick recovery.” Major Bilal said

The UPDF mountain Division will institute a Board of Inquiry to inquest into the incident.
