Key Suspect in Kawempe Robbery & Assault Case Arrested 

Kampala, Uganda – The Police in Kawempe division have arrested a 28 year old suspect, Ssemanda Tony on allegations of robbery and sexual assault which occurred on August 17, 2024 in Kawempe.

According to the deputy spokesperson of Kampala metropolitan police Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspect was apprehended on September 30, 2024, after being on the run and is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station.

Facts gathered indicate that the tragic incident occurred on the night of 17th August 2024, when three men broke into a 34-year-old woman’s home, sexually assaulting her and stealing cash worth UGX 200,000, two mobile phones, and a 32-inch television.

Owoyesigyire highlighted that, “During the incident, the victim’s child, who had been asleep in another room, woke up and turned on the lights, allowing the victim to identify one of the attackers, Ssemanda Tony, who was a neighbor.”

Police say, after committing the crime the suspects including Ssemanda Tony fled the area. The two other suspects remain unidentified

Ssemanda Tony has a prior conviction for a similar offense and was released in June 2024. “Upon his return to the area, the Police received information leading to his arrest. A search of the suspect’s premises yielded a breaking implement and a knife, which have been recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.” Owoyesigyire

He further urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with the law enforcement team as efforts continue to ensure justice is fully served to the affected victims.
