Iganga, Uganda – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has challenged leaders in Busoga to focus on addressing the pressing challenges facing ordinary people in the sub-region as they head towards the 2026 general elections.
Speaking at a mobilization meeting in Iganga, NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, emphasized that leadership involves finding solutions to people’s problems.
“The people want to be given hope, and they want to see that the party and government find solutions to their problems. We are committed to ensuring that NRM regains its strong support in Busoga by addressing the people’s needs.” Namayanja emphasized
Hon. Nansubuga Rosemary Seninde, Director of Mobilization and Cadre Development, noted that research in Busoga and Buganda revealed the need for direct engagement with communities. “As a secretariat, we realised that it was important for us to come back to the people and be able to interact with them to find solutions to their problems,” she highlighted
Seninde, additionally emphasized that addressing issues in fishing and sugarcane growing in the region was a top priority.
Legislators Hon. Bagiire Aggrey Henry and Hon. Taaka Agnes praised the NRM Secretariat for organizing the meeting. “This meeting is timely and crucial for our region,” Bagiire said. “We must work together to address the challenges facing our people.” Taaka added, “We urge the NRM Secretariat to continue engaging with our communities to ensure their concerns are addressed.”
Some of the key concerns raised during the meeting included fishing and sugarcane growing challenges, education sector issues, including illegal fees despite the universal education program.
“As a party, we will ensure that these issues are forwarded to the relevant ministries and government agencies,” Namayanja assured. She announced plans to hold more forums to gather community insights and follow up on issues raised.
The party’s commitment to engaging with communities was reaffirmed by the presence of other key NRM officials, including Hon. Alisemera Babiiha (NRM EC Commissioner), Counsel Enoch Barata (Director of Legal Affairs), and Mr. Rogers Mulindwa (Senior Manager for Communications).
The meeting attracted over 200 leaders, including MPs, local government leaders, Resident District Commissioners, and stakeholders from fishing and sugarcane growing communities.
Upcoming engagements include meetings with sugarcane growers in Jinja and the fishing community in Mayuge district. “We will continue to engage with our communities to ensure their concerns are addressed,” Namayanja said. “This is our commitment to the people of Busoga and Uganda at large.”
