Kampala, Uganda – Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has launched the Manifesto Week 2024, highlighting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government’s achievements midway through its 2021-2026 term.
She highlighted that the government has achieved 35% of its manifesto commitments, with 49% ongoing and on track to be achieved.
Nabbanja also outlined that the NRM government’s manifesto is built on five thematic areas namely; Creating Jobs and Wealth for all, Delivering Education Health and Water, Ensuring Justice and Equity, Protecting Life and Property, and Achieving economic and political integration.
She emphasized that significant progress has been made in these areas, with notable achievements in infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.
Some of the key achievements Nabbanja pointed out include:
– Job Creation: 1,259,275 direct employment opportunities and over 4.66 million informal jobs created
– Parish Development Model (PDM): 10,585 verified SACCOs capitalized, benefiting 1,195,718 households
– Agriculture: 5.1% sector growth, contributing 24.6% to GDP
– Energy: 60% electricity connectivity, with 2,300,000 household connections
– Transport Infrastructure: 6,529km of national road projects undertaken
– Education: 102 secondary schools constructed, with 612 staff houses
– Health: Life expectancy increased to 67.7 years, with 47 public general hospitals
Nabbanja also noted that the government has made significant strides in the health sector, including increasing life expectancy and constructing new hospitals. The Ministry of Health has secured a loan of USD 70 million to improve healthcare services.
In the education sector, Nabbanja highlighted the construction of 102 new secondary schools and 612 staff houses. Additionally, the Parish Development Model has benefited 1,195,718 households, promoting economic empowerment at the grassroots level.
The NRM government’s commitment to transparency and accountability is evident in its regular progress reports and mid-term reviews. Nabbanja emphasized that the government is on track to meet its manifesto commitments, with a focus on economic growth, healthcare, and education.
Manifesto week is conducted in line with the National Monitoring and Evaluation Policy (2013), it gives the government a chance to make its case to the citizens of Uganda, offering correct information about the social contract it signed with the people during the electoral campaigns.
The activities will run from today, November 15th, until December 5th, 2024 at the Office of the President Auditorium.
