According to the spokesperson of traffic and road safety SP Michael Kananura, the bus was traveling from Ntungu S.S.S to Kyezimbire S.S.S when the driver lost control and crashed at Kyeizimbate along Kamubiizi-Kikagate Road.

Kananura also highlighted that, the driver was speeding and failed to negotiate a sharp bend, resulting in the tragic accident. “We urge schools to stop using trucks to transport students as they are not designed for passenger transport.” He said

The injured victims were rushed to Mbarara Referral Hospital for medical attention, while the body of the deceased student was taken to Mbarara Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Kananura further appealed to schools to prioritize the safety of their students by using authorized transport vehicles. “We will continue to educate and enforce traffic safety regulations to prevent such tragedies,” he said.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and safety measures to protect the lives of students and all road users.
