Kampala, Uganda – Kampala metropolitan police is currently investigating the cause of two separate fire incidents that were reported in Kampala Metropolitan South today in the morning, which prompted swift responses from the Uganda Police Force’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team.
According to the deputy spokesperson of Kampala metropolitan police Luke Owoyesigyire, the first incident occurred at Kakungulu Memorial School in Kibuli, Makindye Division, where a fire broke out in the boys’ dormitory which houses around 52 students at approximately 12:50 AM. “The Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team swiftly responded, preventing further escalation of the fire.” He said
He however, noted that no deaths were recorded except minor injuries sustained by only one student, who he says has already received the required medical attention.
In the same vain, he also revealed another fire outbreak which happened at Entebbe Municipality headquarters at around 3am in the morning. “It is alleged that, at around 3 am a metallic kiosk, belonging to Ms. Rose and used as a kitchen, caught fire.” Said Owoyesigyire
“Thanks to the prompt response of the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue team, the fire was contained before it could spread to nearby structures.” He further stated
He said despite the tragic incident, significant property loss, including cooking equipment and food supplies, was recorded.
Police say, investigations are ongoing to determine the exact causes of both fires.
The Uganda Police Force commended the swift action of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services team in both incidents, which ensured minimal damage and loss of life.
Owoyesigyire urged members of the general public to continue being cautious and report any fire hazards to the responsible authorities in time.
The incidents highlight the importance of fire safety and prevention measures in Uganda’s urban areas.
