Kampala, Uganda – President Yoweri Museveni has denounced a group of Buganda clan chiefs who traveled to Namibia to visit Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, accusing them of embarrassing the country.
The Kabaka has been receiving medical treatment in Namibia since April 2024, and a delegation of Buganda Kingdom clan leaders led by Kyaddondo Kasirye Mbugeeramula (Nvuma) recently visited him. However, their visit was met with resistance from Namibian security officials, who demanded authorization to access the monarch.
President Museveni has expressed displeasure with the Buganda clan chiefs’ actions, stating that they have embarrassed the country.
The incident has sparked a diplomatic row between Uganda and Namibia, with some calling for the clan chiefs to be punished for their actions.
The Kabaka’s health issues have been a subject of concern and speculation, with some accusing the Kingdom’s Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga of hiding the King’s condition. Despite reassurances from the Buganda Prime Minister and the Royal family, some elements in the Kingdom leadership structures have remained doubtful about the King’s wellbeing.
