Kampala, Uganda – In a targeted sweep, security agencies from the Uganda Police Force, in collaboration with Uganda people’s defence forces and local leaders, arrested 48 criminals in Kamwokya’s Northern By-Pass, Mulimila Zone as well as Busega area on September 11, 2024 and 13th September 2024 respectively.
Speaking at the weekly security press briefing today, the police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke disclosed that the operation in Kamwokya was conducted on 11th September by the the Kira road police station in conjunction with the local leaders from Mulimila zone in Kamwokya at around 11am.
“The objective of this operation was to apprehend a list of identified criminals who were causing disturbances in the area, generally in the policing area of Kira road around the Northern by-pass and Mulimila zone.” Said the police spokesperson
He noted that the operation was successful, leading to the arrest of the 22 known criminals. “The public expressed their appreciation for the police efforts, calling for more targeted operations in the area to strengthen security.” He said
In the same vain, Kituuma highlighted another operation that the police conducted in Busega where 26 suspects were also arrested on the 13th September 2024 at 8pm.
He says the joint operation which involved the Uganda police and the Uganda people’s defence forces led to the arrest of the suspects whom they’ve charged with public nuisance.
“It was in response to public concern over rising incidences of phone snatching and general theft in Busega particularly around fly-overs, round abouts and northern by-pass.” Kituuma highlighted
The operation kicked off from Busega Kyengera fly-over concluding at the Busega – Mityana fly-over, covering areas of including Kyengera – Masaka fly-over, Busega round about stretching through the Northern by-pass.
In addition, police managed to seize 6 motorcycles believed to be utilised by the group of suspects which are currently held at Nateete police station pending further investigations.
