Kampala, Uganda –The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the 2024 examination timetable, marking a significant milestone in the country’s academic landscape.
For the first time, candidates under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) will sit for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) alongside those taking the transitional UCE exam based on the old curriculum.
“The 2024 examinations will be conducted in a secure and transparent manner, ensuring the integrity of the process,” UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said in a press conference
Key Examination Dates:
– Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams for NLSC candidates: October 11 – November 8, 2024
– Transitional UCE exams for old curriculum candidates: October 11 – November 15, 2024
– Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE): November 4 – 7, 2024
– Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams: November 8 – December 6, 2024
This year’s theme, “Embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment,” reflects UNEB’s commitment to ensuring the examinations accurately reflect learners’ abilities.
The introduction of NLSC brings changes in assessment methods, with a focus on holistic evaluation, including projects and continuous assessments.
Odongo urged all stakeholders to prioritize the integrity of the examinations, ensuring learners receive grades that truly reflect their abilities.
“The sacredness of the examinations must be preserved to ensure that learners are awarded grades that truly reflect their abilities,” he emphasized

– Total candidates: 1,320,400 (7.8% increase from last year)
– UACE registrations: 142,017 (28.4% increase)
– PLE registrations: 798,763 (6.6% increase)
