Kampala, Uganda – Uganda’s Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity, Hon. Akello Rose Lilly, has strongly condemned the President of the Uganda Law Society, Isaac Kimaze Ssemakadde, for using vulgar and condescending language against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ssemakadde’s remarks were made at a function organized by the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), and a video of the incident has been circulating on social media.
Akello expressed shock and disappointment at Ssemakadde’s behavior, stating that it demeans the dignity of women and does not reflect the moral fabric of Ugandan society.
“On behalf of the Government of Uganda strongly condemn this flagrant abuse of the freedom of speech, through vulgar and offensive utterances. The kind of language used by Mr. lsaac Ssemakadde also demeans the dignity of women, and does not reflect the moral fabric of our society.” Akello said in a statement
She urged Ssemakadde to apologize to the DPP and all Ugandans for his indecent language. “I call upon Mr. Isaac Ssemakadde to apologise to the DPP and to all Ugandans, for the indecent and vulgar language used in respect of a Constitutionally held office.”
She added, “All Ugandans should respect and uphold Uganda’s National Ethical Values, which include among others;Respect for humanity and environment, Integrity, moral uprightness and sound character.”
She further called for the respect of human dignity, as enshrined in Article 24 of the Ugandan Constitution.
This is not the first time Ssemakadde has been involved in controversy. He has been known for his fearless and unconventional approach to defending justice and equality, earning him the nickname “Legal Rebel”.
However, his recent actions have sparked widespread criticism, with some calling for his resignation.
