Fred Enanga the Uganda police force spokesperson

Kampala, Uganda – The police in Kampala Metropolitan South and Bwebajja CPS have arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery incident at a mobile money shop in Bwebajja cell.

According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the suspects, Bugaya Edrine and Bahati Kisekka, were apprehended after the victim, Mbadiremu Maria, a 28-year-old mobile money dealer and shop owner, raised an alarm and reported the incident to the police.

“The victim was approached by Bugaya Edrine, a friend who wanted to withdraw mobile money at around 11pm. However, during the transaction, a robber, armed with a pistol, attacked and robbed approximately Ugx 3m from the victim,” Enanga explained.

Enanga added, “The victim managed to positively identify the armed robber as a friend to the customer, Bugaya Edrine, and suspected foul play. She raised an alarm and also contacted the police counter number at Bwebajja CPS.”

The police response team swiftly responded to the call and arrested the suspects, recovering an unmarked pistol without a magazine, Ugx 1.5m, a black jumper, hood, face masks, and mobile phones with supporting messages from their premises at Nadia Excel Recruitment Ltd.

“The pistol was smuggled from South Sudan by Kiseka Bahati, aged 27, to facilitate their criminal enterprise,” Enanga revealed.

The police spokesperson commended the public for utilizing the police counter numbers, saying, “The system works 24/7, and we urge the public to continue reporting such incidents. The arrest of the suspects and recovery of exhibits shows our level of commitment and dedication in the fight against violent armed criminals.”

He further disclosed that the suspects were charged to court for being in possession of an illegal firearm, robbery, and related conspiracies.

“We appreciate the vigilance of the victim and the prompt response of our officers, which led to the successful arrest of the suspects,” Enanga said.
