Kampala, Uganda – The police in Kajjansi in collaboration with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence have in a swift response rescued a one and a half year old child, Lucas Sserwada from his kidnappers.

According to the deputy police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan police Luke Owoyesigyire, the child had been kidnapped by a maid Nakija Prossy, aged 20 on 10th July 2024 from their home in Ngobe Zone, Bunamwaya.

It’s alleged that Nakija, who had lived with the victim’s family for two weeks, left the house with the child and a bag on the day the tragic incident. “Upon realizing that the child was missing, his father, Nimrod Mugaga, reported the disappearance to Ngobe Police.” Said Owoyesigyire

The case was immediately taken up by the Kajjansi Police in collaboration with the Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI), who commenced an investigation to trace the suspect.

Owoyesigyire highlighted that upon thorough investigation, their team managed to further arrest Kayanga Allan, aged 20 from Luzira whom they’ve identified as a boyfriend to Nakija.

“Further investigations led the team to the Mayuge landing site, where Nakija was apprehended with the child, who was found alive and in good condition, as she attempted to cross over to the next island.” He stated

Police however say, the motive of the kidnappers is still unknown as more efforts of interrogating the suspects for more details continue. “We commend the dedicated team of detectives from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence for their swift response, which led to the successful rescue of the child.” Owoyesigyire said

The suspects are currently detained at Kajjansi Police Station as the ongoing investigations continue.
