Police Warns Against Planned Demonstration on 23rd July

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force has issued a strong warning against an unauthorized planned demonstration for Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in Kampala.

According to the police spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma, the said group is mobilising Ugandan youths to join them as they match towards the Ugandan Parliament via social media platforms. “Unidentified organizers have circulated placards urging people to gather on all Kampala streets on July 23rd.” Said Rusoke

It’s upon the above context that he cautioned the public against participating in the unauthorized demonstration, citing the potential for disorder and the lack of transparency in the organization.”The right to peaceful protest will be respected, but we will not tolerate attempts to incite public disorder.” He stated

In addition, he urged those that wish to exercise their rights to demonstration to do it within the law forexample by engaging the responsible authorities like the police. “UPF urges persons who wish to exercise their rights such as the right to assembly and demonstrate to always work collaboratively with us to ensure that they don’t aid persons of ulterior motives to hijack these expressions to accomplish criminal intentions.

He however stated that the motives of the organizers remain unidentified, and the commencement time and organizational details are also unclear.
