Kampala, Uganda – The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among, has made a significant contribution of UGX 50 million to support the official opening of the new All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero, Kampala.

During her visit to the cathedral on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, Among toured the church, received briefings on upcoming events, and addressed the media. She was accompanied by Rev. Rebecca Nyegenye, Provost of All Saints Cathedral, representing Archbishop His Grace Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.

“I am honored to be part of this historic moment,” Among said. “The Church of Uganda has done an exemplary job in constructing this magnificent cathedral, which will provide a safe and conducive space for worship.” She commended the church’s leadership, stakeholders, and well-wishers for their tireless efforts.

The state-of-the-art cathedral boasts a unique design featuring two galleries and a spacious layout without middle columns, accommodating up to 5,000 worshippers. This is a significant upgrade from the previous capacity of 400.

The opening event, scheduled for November 1, 2024, promises to be a grand affair. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will be the guest of honor, while Rt. Rev. Alfred Olwa, Bishop of Lango Diocese, will deliver the guest sermon. The event will also include the ordination of deacons and priests, as well as the installation of clergy and lay canons.

According to Rt. Hon. John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, Chairperson of the organizing committee and former Prime Minister of Uganda, the event is expected to attract around 3,000 attendees, including dignitaries from within and outside Uganda. The budget for the inauguration is set at UGX 700 million.

Vivian Igundura, Chairperson of the building committee, reported that the total projected expenditure upon completion is UGX 25 billion, a significant reduction from the initial estimate of UGX 32 billion. “We achieved this without compromising the quality of construction,” Igundura noted. The project began in December 2010, with the foundation stone laid by former Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi in February 2011.

As the nation prepares for this momentous occasion, the Speaker’s contribution serves as a testament to the cathedral’s significance. “This cathedral is not just a place of worship but a symbol of unity and hope,” Among emphasized.
