The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced the arrival of the initial consignment tablets to be used in the upcoming national population and housing census.
As of Monday, March 18, 2024, the bureau said it had received 36,000 tablets, with more expected to arrive in the country in the coming days.
“The remaining tablets will arrive in bits,” said Dr Chris Mukiza, the UBOS Executive Director.
“The next batch of 10,000 will arrive on March 25, 2024.” He added
Mukiza was speaking on Monday at the launch of the census household listing and mapping activities in Wakiso District.
UBOS plans to deploy about 110,000 enumerators, each with their own gadget. The tablets have been produced at about Shs. 132 billion.
The delayed procurement of the tabs was part of the reason the census was postponed from August last year.
The bureau also recently extended the deadline for receiving applications for Census Enumerator and Supervisor positions for the upcoming census from March 15th to March 22.
Uganda is set to conduct the National Population and housing Census 2024 with the reference night being 9th May 2024. The Census will be done in 10 days starting on 9th May 2024 to 19th May 2024.
