Villa edges past NEC to lift this season’s Uganda premier league trophy

SC Villa ended a 20-year wait for the elusive 17th title with a 2-0 victory over NEC at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

Charles Lwanga and Hakim Kiwanuka scored in the second half meaning wins for BUL, Vipers SC and Kitara meant nothing.

The Jogoos had to endure a goalless first half in which they created almost nothing as NEC went toe to toe with them.

Dusan Stojanovic was forced to make a change midway the first half with defender Arnold Odong getting off.

David Owori replaced him with Gavin Kizito moving to centre back from right back.

In the second half, Lwanga broke the deadlock in the 67th minute when he headed home man of the match Umar Lutalo cross in the area.

Kiwanuka doubled the lead in the 75th minute after brilliant team move sending the Villa capacity crowd in the stands into celebration mood.

Reagan Mpande and Abasi Kyeyune later came on for the blues as they held on to the possession till the final whistle which a sea of blue jump over the stadium perimeter wall to join the players on the pitch in celebration.

Elsewhere, Vipers won 4-1 at home to Mbarara City with Milton Karisa scoring twice with Karim Watambala and Abubaker Lawal scoring the other goal while Seri Agumaho scored the consolation for the visitors.

BUL won 3-0 against Busoga United at Fufa Technical Centre, Njeru, Kitara beat Gaddafi 3-0 at Masindi, UPDF were 1-0 winners over Wakiso Giants, URA drew 1-1 with Bright Stars and KCCA posted the same result against Maroons.
