The police in Kajjansi have opened up an investigation case file regarding a hit and run fatal accident which occurred at approximately 2am on the night of 29th May 2024 at Total Petrol Station in Kitende, along the Kampala Entebbe road.
The deputy public relations officer for Kampala metropolitan police ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said the eyewitnesses provided conflicting accounts regarding the circumstances of the accident. “It is alleged by some that the driver of a white Fuso truck, registration number UBB 891J, which was carrying matooke, struck an unidentified person and fled the scene. Another account suggests that the deceased victim was pushed off the said vehicle, which then continued on its way.” Said Owoyesigyire
He however stated, that the driver has been arrested following an interception at Kasubi by some of the concerned citizens who had reacted by giving a chase. “The body of the deceased has been transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.” He said
He further notified that due to conflicting statements from the various eyewitnesses, the case file has been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department at Kajjansi to determine the exact circumstances which resulted into the death of the victim. “We will provide further details as the investigation progresses.” He noted
