KCCA Launches ‘Green City’ Initiative to Enhance Kampala’s Beauty and Safety

Kampala, Uganda – Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has unveiled a comprehensive program aimed at maintaining and enhancing the city’s green cover. The initiative, dubbed “Maintaining the City Green ,” seeks to promote beautification, sustainability, and safety in Kampala’s public spaces.

According to KCCA, the program will involve continuous tree growth and city beautification, trimming of trees near power lines and security cameras, transplanting of trees in narrow road islands, and relocation of trees that may obstruct traffic visibility. Dead or non-compliant trees will also be removed.

The authority has expressed gratitude to stakeholders who have supported the initiative through tree donations, including Ham Enterprises, ABSA bank, Grant Thorton, Rotary, Total Energies, Davis and Shirtliff.

KCCA has urged the public to join the “Clean and Green Campaign” to preserve and enhance Kampala’s greenery, in line with the Smart City agenda.

The initiative is expected to create a sustainable, beautiful, and safe environment for all residents, making Kampala a model city in Africa.
