Speaker Among and her deputy Tayebwa visit Bulange ahead of this year’s Kabaka Birthday Run.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among on Tuesday, 02 April 2024 led a delegation comprising of Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa and MPs to Bulange, Mengo to support the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run.

This year’s Kabaka Birthday Run, slated for Sunday, 07 April 2024 is hinged on the fight against HIV/AIDs scourge under the theme: “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDs to save the girl child.”

Speaker Among and her entourage, which included Government Chief Whip Hon Hamson Obua, the Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness Hon Lilian Aber, was welcomed to Bulange by the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of the kingdom of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga.

In his welcoming remarks, Mayiga termed the Speaker’s visit historic, adding that it marks the beginning of deeper collaboration between the Kingdom and Parliament.

“This is the first time the Speaker has been to Bulange… This is a historic visit because no Speaker of Parliament has ever been here.” Said Buganda Kitikiiro

The deputy speaker of parliament Thomas Tayebwa urged all legislators of the 11th parliament to embrace the birthday run by fully participating in the activities since they’ve already paid for their Kits.

“The Buganda Caucus has procured a kit for every MP, so there is no excuse not to participate. If you choose not to run, kindly reimburse the funds allocated so that they can be directed to Mengo. Alternatively, if running isn’t feasible for you, consider contributing in other ways,” stated Tayebwa.

Meanwhile the chairperson of Buganda caucus in parliament Hon. Muwanga kivumba lauded parliament for their massive support towards the Kingdom.

“Such collective efforts significantly contribute to fostering national unity and advancing Uganda’s progress,” remarked Kivumbi.
